Sometimes you need a little extra help with your Yoga, so here are some tools and ideas to give you that lift.

Posture Focus: Dancer

This season I would like to share Dancer which is a challenging balance with the need for concentration and clarity. The Sanskrit name for this posture is Natrajasana and it is known for a powerful transformation in the body and mind…. you tap into the very centre of your being.

Physically dancer strengthens the legs and stretches and extends the spine. A fantastic chest opening and obviously brilliant for balance. When I was taught this posture by my tutors, they said that it was best practiced outside and perhaps that is when the seed of Earthed Yoga was planted. Emotionally; dancer can dissolve old and unnecessary emotions and create space for welcoming change into your life.

In the woods I offer the option to modify the posture and use a tree friend for balance initially. This helps you to feel into your centre and focus on the position of the body - you can then move onto a free standing option and even use a strap to reach the foot if needed.

Things to be aware of when practising dancer;

  • Use a tree or wall for balance if needed

  • Work gently if you have any knee cap challenges

Balancing Breath

A balancing breathing practice at a rate 4-6 breaths per minute using alternate nostril breath and ocean breathing to stimulate the vagus nerve Ratio is 1:1 so the inhale and the exhale are of equal length to the count of 4. We will complete 1 round of 10

Please speak to your GP or health professional if you experience any light-headedness when practicing breathing exercises and stop immediately if you feel any ill effects.
